About Selmer
Selmer Paris began in 1885 set up by Henri Selmer, with the manufacture of reeds and mouthpieces. From 1898, with the help of one workman, Henri began manufacturing clarinets at his workshop in Paris. From 1903, Alexandre Selmer, Henri’s brother (principle of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra) begins playing his brothers clarinets and then selling them in 1905, increasing the popularity of the brand in the US. From 1940-1980 they developed and released over 4 different models of clarinet in Bb and A, models of which have been discontinued, but set the in motion the development of the models which are for sale today. It was in 2010 that Selmer Paris celebrated its 125th anniversary and were labelled a Living Heritage Company by the French state recognising their excellence of tradition and innovation.
