Vandoren M30 Lyre 13 Series Profile 88 Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece
Vandoren M30 Lyre 13 Series Profile 88 Bb clarinet mouthpiece is one of Vandoren’s altered pitch mouthpieces. Tuned instead to 440Hz (Widely known as American Pitch), which changes how the mouthpiece material (Ebonite) resonates.
In order to tune this mouthpiece, a wider bore is necessary. The mouthpiece you use should work well with the accuracy of your instruments pitch. This modification also lowers the pitch of the instrument, which means you can avoid having to purchase another longer barrel. This is especially good if you already use a Vandoren mouthpiece and find you are compensating for sharp tuning.
The M30 Lyre 13 Series Profile 88 is based on the design of the original M30. The main differences being the smaller tip opening, profile 88 beak and the lowered tuning. These changes can make a massive difference on how it feels to play. If you find the M30 too wide for you, and you are looking for a mouthpiece that has a dark centred sound (much like the Chedeville mouthpieces) then this is definitely worth trying.
The M30 Lyre series 13 profile 88 plays with an altered richer quality of sound and a feeling of flexibility and roundness, it is designed to have an edgy sound whilst giving the option of a smaller tip opening and comfortable playing position.
With a long facing and medium tip opening, the M30 Lyre 13 Series Profile 88 would work best if paired with stronger reeds- between 3-4 (see below for Vandoren recommended reed strengths). With all of these components working together, you can completely transform your playing- your tone, articulation and reliability across the range.
As one of over 30 different models for Bb clarinet made by Vandoren, this shows their motivation to make a mouthpiece for clarinettists playing any style of music.
- Tip Opening – 113.5
