Vandoren 5RV Profile 88 Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece
The Vandoren 5RV profile 88 Bb clarinet mouthpiece is a variation on one of Vandoren's popular models, the 5RV. This mouthpiece has gained in popularity as it is a versatile mouthpiece that is suitable regardless of the genre you play. Created in the early thirties and given its name by Robert Van Doren (the owner of Vandoren Accessories), this mouthpiece is recommended by many teachers for its ease of control and is played around the world by many professional clarinettists. The varied profile 88 beak design of this model has been designed to create a more comfortable embouchure position. This opens the possibilities of experimenting with different mouthpiece angles which can alter the tonal variations available.
Vandoren’s 5RV profile 88 mouthpiece, has a medium short facing and a medium tip opening. This means it doesn't require too much air, but is open enough to allow for a great rounded tone. Alongside the beak design, these all work together to create a mouthpiece that has the projection, comfort and allows for easy articulation and dynamic control.
Usually a narrow tip opening work best with a harder reed and a wider tip opening a softer one, but this is also down personal preference. The 5RV model with its medium-short facing would be best suited to stronger reed choices; a 3-4 strength reed would be a great choice.
- Tip Opening – 109+
- Facing Length – Medium Short
