Vandoren 5RV Alto Clarinet Mouthpiece

The Vandoren 5RV Alto clarinet mouthpiece is a popular choice for many players with a medium tip opening and a medium facing, it is easy to control and doesn’t require too much air to get a great rounded tone. Providing you with a rich timbre, this model is given its name by Robert Van Doren. Played around the world and chosen by many professional clarinettists, this is a great choice for Alto clarinet.

Usually when looking at compatible reeds for your mouthpiece, a narrow tip opening work best with a harder reed and a wider tip opening a softer one. The 5RV model with its medium facing would be best suited to stronger reed choices; a 3-4 strength reed would be a great choice. (see below for Vandoren’s reed recommendations)

Vandoren have created an extensive range of models to suit many different styles of playing depending on what you are looking for. Slight differences between the variations mean that you can get a mouthpiece that has the projection, articulation and comfort you are after. Prioritising musician’s individual likes and needs when playing their chosen mouthpiece, Vandoren have created their range to incorporate these preferences.
