Vandoren M15 13 Series Profile 88 Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece

The M15 13 Series Profile 88 Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece is one of 3 different variations of the M15 model from Vandoren. The M15 range has been expanded since first introduced in 2000. Available in a profile 88 version as well, the M15 series 13 profile 88, this model has been designed for easy articulation and to offer a colourful sound spectrum.

The significance of the series 13 modifications are the results in resonance and tuning. Being created with an altered tuning of 440Hz (widely known as ‘American pitch’), instead of 442HZ; this has a different way of working with your clarinet. In order to get to this tuning, the mouthpiece is bored wider. This also has the ability to lower the pitch of your instrument. This is especially good if you find yourself having to compensate for sharp tuning and means you can avoid having to purchase a longer barrel.

Vandoren’s M15 13 series profile 88 mouthpiece has a small tip opening and a long facing. Therefore it is suggested that you use a stronger strength reed (between a 3.5-5) as a softer reed will not have the stability to allow the air to flow freely thorough this mouthpiece, meaning that you will have difficulty producing notes and an even reliable tone across the range.

With the best set up, this mouthpiece can offer you a greater freedom of expression and will give you deep rich tonal timbres, rich in harmonics. Vandoren have so many models and variations on some longstanding popular gems, you should find a mouthpiece that’ll suit your particular playing style and needs.
