Vandoren B40 13 Series Profile 88 Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece

The Vandoren B40 13 series profile 88 mouthpiece is one of the models specifically designed for using at A440 pitch. This mouthpiece, tuned to a lower pitch is able to resonate in a different way than the standard range (tuned to 442Hz). This concept, developed in 1994 for the American market will also work with clarinets with European tuning. With this combination of tunings, different tonal colour possibilities are possible.

To tune a mouthpiece to 440Hz, a wider bore is taken. This also lowers the pitch of the instrument, which is especially good if you are compensating for sharp tuning and would mean you could avoid having to purchase a longer barrel for a similar outcome. It is necessary that your mouthpiece works well with the accuracy with your instruments pitch, so it is important to try this model before making a final decision.

The 13 series has a profile 88 beak for a more comfortable playing position. With the same tip opening and facing of the B45, one of the most long standing and popular mouthpieces in the Vandoren range and designed in collaboration with Jean-Paul Gauvin (Vandoren’s main mouthpiece designer), the B40 13 series profile 88 mouthpiece has a focused and centred sound. This mouthpiece is definitely one to try to see if it will work for you.

With a strong robust feel it is suitable for any clarinettist from beginner to professional playing many different genres of music. With so many different models and variations in their mouthpiece family, there are plenty to choose from and find the best fit for you!
