Vandoren 5RV 13 Series Profile 88 Bb Clarinet Mouthpiece

Vandoren 5RV 13 series profile 88 Bb clarinet mouthpiece, created in the early thirties by Robert Vandoren brings another 440 pitch model mouthpiece to Vandorens’ range. Created with a medium-short facing and a medium closed tip opening, this mouthpiece therefore doesn’t require too much air, but is open enough to get a great rounded tone.

The 5RV mouthpiece is recommended by many teachers for its ease of control and is played around the world by many professionals. With the 13 series tuning and profile 88 beak design, this mouthpiece brings an option to the range that incorporates the projection and articulation of the standard models, but with altered tuning and profile 88 beak design for extra comfort and harmonic variation.

The overall goal of the 13 series mouthpieces, was to make a mouthpiece of the same Vandoren quality with a dark and centered sound but at American pitch. At this lower pitch, the mouthpiece is able to resonate in a different way and produces an altered sound colour to the standard models.

In order to tune this mouthpiece to 440Hz, a wider bore is necessary. This modification has the ability to also lower the pitch of an instrument, which means you can avoid having to purchase another longer barrel. This is especially good if you already use a Vandoren mouthpiece with a 13 series variation and find you are compensating for sharp tuning.

The 5RV 13 series profile 88 mouthpiece has a medium closed tip opening so will lend itself better to harder reed choices. Vandoren recommend anything between a 3-4 would be a great choice and suit this mouthpiece well.

This is definitely worth a try to see if this variation will be your perfect choice!
